Reconciliation Action Plan & Anti-Racism Policy
The Albany Secondary Education Support Centre’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has positively impacted our school community by fostering a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. Engaging local Elders and incorporating their voices in our learning activities have created a culturally inclusive environment that enhances student well-being and promotes shared pride in cultural identities.
Notably, students collaborated with local First Nations artist Tommy Dimer to create murals representing the Menang Noongar Six Seasons, which serve as vibrant reminders of the local culture and ecology. Additionally, staff participated in a collaborative art piece with artist Aaron Mallard, further strengthening connections with the local Aboriginal community.
Initiatives such as the Acknowledgement of Country and the celebration of National Reconciliation Week have deepened community ties, while ongoing professional development has empowered staff to improve their cultural responsiveness. This holistic approach not only honours the Traditional Custodians of the land but also builds lasting relationships that support unity and respect within our diverse community.
