In Term 3 of 2023, in collaboration with Woolworths, ASESC launched the Albany Mini Fresh Food store on site. Set up in a classroom, the store includes shelving, stock, uniforms, two registers, money, and signage, creating a realistic retail environment. Students were polled and chose the name themselves!
The grand opening was attended by a diverse group of representatives, including those from Woolworths stores, Fujitsu, the school board, TAFE, local principals, the Department of Education (DOE), and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
We introduced Onsite Work Experience in the Albany Mini Fresh Food store for targeted students who are not yet ready for external Workplace Learning. Students work in groups of 2-3, dedicating two periods per week to their duties in the Albany Mini Fresh Food store. The school appointed a staff coordinator to collaborate with the Workplace Learning Coordinator in implementing the program.
Students make monthly visits to Woolworths stores in Albany. These visits aim to strengthen relationships and provide students with additional real-life work experiences. Classroom teachers are encouraged to incorporate the Mini Fresh Food store into their lesson planning for each year. This program not only provides hands-on learning but also helps bridge the gap between classroom education and practical workplace skills.
