Every Friday our Cooking Enterprise students prepare and sell burgers to staff, getting hands on experience with all the different parts of running a small business. This week they have been working out exactly how much it costs to make each burger and whether the current prices are enough to cover rising ingredient costs and still make a small profit. It is a great opportunity for students to put their maths skills to use in a real-life setting, while learning about costs, pricing and managing money. ...
In C5 we are working hard on phonemic awareness. Students have to listen very carefully to hear the sounds that make up individual words and then repeat them back. It is hard work. Think it is easy? It is not. It takes a lot of concentration. Imagine breaking the word “cat” into its individual sounds and then thinking of three words that rhyme with ‘cat’. Then imagine counting the number of syllables in “Mr. D”. Even though it is hard work, students like to offer their answers. Here we have three students all wanting to share their answers. ...
We are so proud to share that the student collaboration art piece, 'Mammang and Baby' (which was part of the Art Trail exhibit) has been donated to Albany Public Library. Well done to our students for creating this beautiful piece. ...
Today, our whole school enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the Albany Entertainment Centre (AEC) to watch The Song Catchers, a wonderful musical theatre production presented by West Australian Opera and Breaksea.
The performance followed the adventures of Tipu the fox and Marri the echidna as they journeyed through the bush in search of the magical Listening Tree. Through live music, colourful animation and engaging storytelling, the show explored important themes of friendship, trust, courage, belonging and the power of listening.
Inspired by the stories and knowledge of local Menang Noongar Elders, the production also celebrated our connection to Country, community and the natural environment.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience live theatre and enjoy a unique performance created especially for Albany. Everyone had a wonderful time, and our students represented the school beautifully, demonstrating respectful behaviour throughout the excursion.
What a fantastic experience for our whole school! ...
